Two goals early were just enough for the Pella Christian boys’ soccer team to stave off a resilient Newton team last night, as the Eagles prevailed 2 – 1. Pella Christian scored back-to-back goals off the foot of Gabriel Soler before the Cardinals answered with one nearly halfway through the second period. Coach Gerrit Brouwer tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that Newton never let off the gas pedal after cutting the Eagles’ lead in half, and the play in goal by senior Josh Fopma was a big reason they held on for the win. PC improves to 2 – 0 this season and are 1 – 0 in games within the Little Hawkeye Conference. They turn their attention towards Albia, who comes to town this Friday for a JV/Varsity doubleheader.
