Playing in tournament action, Pella High’s girls’ soccer team went 1-for-3 in their matches at Nevada. Maddie Canfield and Grace Held both scored in the second half to lead the Lady Dutch to a 2 – nil victory over Waterloo – Columbus Catholic to open up their Saturday. Class 3A No. 13- ranked Johnston was next and the Dragons edged Pella and handed them their first loss of the year, 1 – 0. The day ended with a match against another 3A school: Southeast Polk. Pella scored early in the first half, but the Rams answered with a late first half goal to tie the score at 1 after 40 minutes. Roughly 20 minutes into the final period, Southeast Polk found the net for the second time, and held on to win, 2 – 1. The Lady Dutch are 7 – 2 overall this year, and will go back to Nevada for a head-to-head match with the top-ranked Class 1A Cubs on Thursday.
