The final gavels have fallen at the Iowa Statehouse for the 2016 Legislative Session.

Two key compromises between the two parties have ended the brief overtime period, one of which surrounded the health and human services budget.

State Senator Ken Rozenboom, despite his opposition and that of many fellow Republicans, says organizations like Planned Parenthood will receive Medicaid funding in the next fiscal year in exchange for additional tax credits for adoptive families. He says those eligible will receive double the benefit in 2018. Rozenboom feels the move was a small step towards less abortions in the state.

More legislative oversight was also approved for the Managed Medicaid program implemented by the Governor’s office. Hear more about the final days of the session in the next few newscasts on KNIA/KRLS.
