The Pella Christian and Pella soccer teams went head to head this week. With great defense from both boys’ teams, Pella Christian won 1-0.

Gabriel Soler scored the lone goal for the Eagles with 16 minutes left in the second half. PC Head Coach Gerrit Brouwer told KNIA/KRLS sports his team was prepared for a closely-fought game all the way through.

“They played well, we played our game, we played well,” he says. “Towards the end of the game it got a little anxious–we were just trying to make sure they don’t put the ball in the net and every single of of our players did fantastically and did their job.”

Pella Coach Mark Solomon said the match mostly played out as he anticipated.

“Pella Christian has improved so much in the last couple of years,” Solomon said. “They’re playing very well as a team.”

“I thought we had as many or more opportunities to put a goal in and try to put the game away, but I give a lot of credit to their goalkeeper and their defense for doing an outstanding job keeping us out.”

The No.1 ranked Pella girls made short work of a young and growing Eagles team 6-0. Lexi Brown led the Lady Dutch with two goals. Molly Howard, Katie Vander Molen, Maddie Canfield, and Erica Bossard each had one apiece. Pella Christian had no shots on goal.

The 7-0 PC boys will take on Collins-Maxwell-Baxter at home Thursday and 4-5 Pella will travel to Gilbert on Friday. Pella Christian’s girls are 3-4 and next on the road to Chariton on Thursday. The 6-0 Lady Dutch are traveling to Nevada Saturday.
