A plethora of Tulip City track and field athletes will compete for the first time in 2016 at the infamous Blue Oval this coming week. Pella High as a whole qualified a total of 15 events to the Drake Relays, which begin this Wednesday in Des Moines. For the Little Dutch, Tyson Wassenaar made it in the discus, Chase Van Sant qualified twice with his long jump and 100 meter dash, Austin Hill made it in the shot put, Michael Buma in the 110 high hurdles, and Pella’s 4 x 100 meter relay team all will compete this week. The Lady Dutch had nine different qualifiers; Annika Pingel will race in the 100 meter dash, Emma Thoreson and Corin McKinstrey in the 100 meter hurdles, the Lady Dutch 4 x 100, 400, and 800 meter relay teams, the sprint medley relay team, Emily Holterhaus in the high jump, and Paighton Malek in the long jump. Across town, two Eagles’ girls’ events will compete: their 4 x 100 meter relay team, and Lizzy Van Manen will throw the discus.
