In the official start of year two in Pella Christian’s rekindled soccer program, the upstart Eagles earned a big victory over a rival Des Moines Christian Lions 1-0 to begin the year.

Head Coach Mike Buchheit tells KNIA/KRLS Sports a goal by Laura DeZwarte in the 98th minute gave them the edge.

“We were starting to get really tired, our girls were sitting back and starting to lose their attack, but had a nice breakaway in the middle with Cailey Terpstra — she carried the ball 30, maybe 35 yards, and had a nice layoff to Lindsay Breon, who laid it off to Laura DeZwarte in position for Laura to take a shot on goal, and it ricocheted off their keeper,” he says.

Pella Christian is 1-0 and the girls next travel to the Southeast Polk tournament Saturday.
