To say the 2016 Central baseball season was a struggle may be an understatement. The preseason poll had the Dutch picked to finish third in the league, but injuries marred the promising-looking season for a team that was going to return a lot of talent. Dylan Diveney was set to be the staff ace, but had to have Tommy John surgery early on in the campaign which shelved him for the year. Many other setbacks forced Coach Matt Schirm to bring guys up from JV to play at the varsity level early in their careers. Schirm says their lack of success this season wasn’t from a deficiency of effort. The Dutch finished 10 – 30 overall and eighth in the Iowa Conference. Seven seniors will graduate from Central’s roster this weekend.
