Prior to their last two games, which have been shutout losses to Des Moines Roosevelt and Norwalk, Pella Christian’s boys’ soccer team had won eight games in a row, including five shutouts of their own. The Eagles have scored 31 goals this season through ten contests, tied for 11th most in Class 1A, while allowing just nine on defense, which has them in the top ten in that category, too. A combination of quickness to the ball, soccer smarts, and an unwillingness to lose is what Coach Gerrit Brouwer says is the magic potion to their success so far this season. Brouwer adds that they are learning every day and they play well together, and that if there are breakdowns, they have the coverage and the understanding of what needs to happen after that point.
