It hardly seems possible, but today is the day high school boys’ and girls’ track and field teams all over Iowa will attempt to qualify as many events as they can to the Blue Oval and the state track and field meet next week. Pella High and Knoxville will converge upon the same venue at Bondurant-Farrar for their qualifier. Along with the Panthers, Dutch, and host Bluejays, Grinnell, Newton, Oskaloosa, South Tama, and Williamsburg will all be in attendance. Pella boys’ coach, Brent Van Hauen, has drawn up several different arrangements of how they can get the most events qualified to state to hopefully realize a big goal. Girls’ coach, Dak Rasmussen, agrees, and adds placing at the state meet is more important than winning a district championship. Weather pending, field events are scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m., with the track events getting going at 4:30.
