Central College kept its season alive with a 5-4 win over Coe in the first round of the Iowa Conference softball tournament yesterday afternoon in Decorah in a game heard live on www.kniakrls.com. The Dutch jumped out in front 2-0 in the first inning on a Karly Olson RBI single and a Paige Schreiner squeeze bunt. In the fourth, Central tacked on three more when Paige Dickel smacked an RBI single and Abbie Voas followed with a towering two run home run. Olson was cruising in the circle for the first five innings before the Kohawks scratched together four sixth-inning runs with just one out to make it a one-run game. Annie DeVries was called on for relief, got the final two outs of the inning, then worked around a pair of seventh-inning baserunners to close out the game. Central improves to 23-14 and will play Luther at11:00 this morning in the semifinals. Trevor Castle will call the game live on the KNIA2 stream of www.kniakrls.com.
