Eight quick runs in the first two innings combined with shut-down pitching catapulted the Pella Christian softball team to an 8 – 0 win over Pleasantville in Game #1 of the 2016 season last night. The Eagles scored twice on three hits in the first inning, and grabbed six more in the second after the team batted around. The shorthanded Trojans, who were missing some key players that were participating in the girls’ golf regional, did not allow a run after the second inning, thanks to stellar defense and an impressive relief outing from Abbie DeJoode on the pitching rubber. Coach Karen Harrill was thrilled with the effort and adds that the year of experience in 2015 helped her younger players mature. Emma Schnell and Courtney Johannes combined to blank Pleasantville with 11 strikeouts and allowing just six hits. Amanda Harrill went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and a double. Paige Busick led Pleasantville with a 2-for-3 showing at the dish. The Eagles return to action Wednesday versus West Marshall, and Pleasantville stays at home tonight versus Chariton.
