A truck and trailer carrying 160 hogs went off the roadway and tipped in southern Marion County Tuesday evening.

Southbound on highway 5 near the county line, south of the Marysville Stub, the trailer caught the shoulder and crashed into a ravine. Bussey Fire and Rescue, Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies, Indiana Township Fire, and Marion County Roads responded to the scene where pigs freed by the rollover were corralled and several hurt in the accident were euthanized. The swine belong to Prestige Farms. The driver was unhurt in the accident.

Highway 5 was closed from approximately 7:30 p.m. yesterday until 4:15 this morning as a result of the accident.
