Veterans who have passed away were honored at an annual ceremony in Pella yesterday.

Local American Legion Commander Don DeCock says the American Legion and VFW held a memorial at the Pella Memorial Building to recognize service members who have died and paid the ultimate sacrifice.

“Truly, it’s an honor and respect to those who have died while serving in the military, no matter what branch they served in,” he says.

Patriotic songs were sang, prayers were read for the fallen, and Iowa American Legion Post Commander Jim Peterson spoke about the importance of remembering veterans for their service.

The ceremony concluded with a volley of shots and the playing of taps.
