A soldier’s memorial has been installed across the street from Young’s Park in Knoxville.

The monument depicts a silhouette of a soldier kneeling at the grave site of a fallen comrade. The grave site is depicted by a Christian cross. The memorial or one similar to it had been across the street on public land, which caused concern by some in the community. The cross became a point of contention last year, after being challenged by a group believing religious symbols should not be on public land, or if one was, other religions practiced by veterans from Knoxville should be acknowledged as well. The memorial now sits on private land.
