Day one of the Iowa Conference track and field championships is in the books, and decathletes Jaemin Powell and Ryan Kruse are leading the way for the Dutch. Powell was the runner-up last year, but has the early edge with 3,456 after Thursday’s five events concluded. He was in the top three in the quintet of competitions, including wins in the 100 meter dash and the long jump. Kruse won the shot put and is holding a score of 3,169. Emma Drees, Morgan Koenigs, and Merissa Larson are all in the top seven of the women’s heptathlon for Central, with Drees ahead of her own pack in fourth place. The decathlon and heptathlon wrap up their events today in conditions that aren’t exactly supposed to be favorable.
