This week is National Arson Awareness Week and the Iowa Department of Public Safety and State Fire Marshal Division would like Iowans to take a closer look at some unsolved arson fires in the state.

Marion County Deputy, Firefighter, and Fire Investigator Jason Kingery tells KNIA/KRLS News that witnesses to a fire can make a difference in resolving the cause of it, by reporting any suspicious activity, no matter how small. In 2015, the State Fire Marshal Division determined over 36% of all fires they investigated in the state were arson. Nearly $2.5 million in estimated property damage was caused by those fires.
