Playing in meets all season long that mostly feature Class 3A competition, Pella Christian’s boys’ golf team has showed their grit and determination each time out and even in the middle of meets. With sectionals coming up this Friday, Coach Jim Dingeman says he’s proud of adjustments his Eagles have made when things don’t necessarily start off on the right foot.
“We went to PCM for their invitational a couple weeks ago, and we got off to a real rocky start,” Dingeman explains. “Five of the six guys played better on their back nine than they did on their front nine. It’s something we always talk about; try to do five or six shots better than you did the first time. It was good to see, that even though we didn’t play great all around, that we were able to improve.”
Dingeman also mentions their home triangular against Grinnell and Norwalk, where they were without their seniors, and the younger golfers stepped up and played well, some in their first ever varsity competition. Pella Christian’s boys are at Colfax-Mingo this morning at 9:00 a.m. for tournament action.
