The Little Hawkeye Conference has been dominated once again by Pella High athletes. In the 2016 league track and field meet at Dallas Center – Grimes, the Little and Lady Dutch were crowned conference champs. For the boys, it is their fifth consecutive title; a total of eight events were won by the Little Dutch, three of them by one athlete. Chase Van Sant emerged victorious in the long jump, 100 and 200 meter dashes. Michael Buma won the 110 high hurdles and the 400 meter hurdles races, while Tyson Wassenaar took gold in the discus and Austin Hill won in the shot put. Pella’s 4 x 100 meter relay team was also across the line first. The Little Dutch also had five runner-up showings on the night. Pella won with 183 points, just 20 more than D-C-G. The Eagles’ boys had 25 points, taking a third place in the 4 x 200 meter relay, and Eddie Pringle was third in the 200 meter dash. The Lady Dutch had a larger margin of victory en route to their seventh consecutive league championship, scoring 190 points and winning by 52.5 over the Fillies. Thirteen total events were won by the green-clad Lady Dutch, including every single relay race. PC’s girls scored 48.5 points and had one league champ; Lizzy Van Manen won in the discus with a toss of 121’10”. Select results are included below.
