Both Pella soccer teams came away victorious despite playing in some gnarly weather conditions last night.

Although temperatures bottomed out near 40 degrees as the final horn buzzed, the No. 1 Pella Lady Dutch soccer team remained on fire on the pitch, breezing past Marshalltown with a decisive 5-0 victory.

Pella went on a scoring spree midway through the first half, racking up four goals in a 16 minute span.

The Lady Dutch were led by a pair of scores from senior Kayla Langstraat, who told KNIA/KRLS sports after the game they benefited from playing a different style of team in the Bobcats.

“It was good to play a team that’s physical because we haven’t had a ton of teams that we’ve played be as physical as they were,” she says. “It’s a good match-up to just get us going and to keep our tempers down.”

Pella also had goals from Molly Howard, Erica Bossard, and Ciara Buchheit on a penalty kick.

The boys soccer team had a successful road trip to Mt. Pleasant, overcoming a lightning delay and monsoon-like conditions in their 5-1 victory.

Evan Armstrong had a pair of goals for the Little Dutch, Ethan Poulter and Reid Leidigh had a score and an assist apiece, and Will Warner scored the 5th and final tally.

The 10-2 Lady Dutch return to conference action Tuesday at the Lacey Sports Complex in Oskaloosa, the 8-8 boys will play the Indians at home.
