Employees at PPI Plant #4 were evacuated for a fire late Tuesday night.

Pella fire crews were called to the building in the 2100 block of Washington Street just before 10 p.m.

Pella Fire Chief Doug Van Gorkom tells KNIA/KRLS News a filtration unit on the exterior of the building possibly caught some sparks from a plasma cutter, which likely set off the blaze.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, which was mostly contained by the machine, by 10:30 p.m.

Pella Ambulance, Pella Police, and a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy all responded. No injuries were reported.
