Central College squandered a chance to sweep Wartburg in softball action yesterday, instead settling for a split – winning game one 7-2 before falling 5-4. In a game originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon, and then delayed three times on Sunday because of the rain, the Dutch used a seven run third inning to cruise to victory in the opener. As darkness began to set in in the literal night cap, Central held a 4-2 lead after five innings. Umpires considered ending the game there, but allowed play to continue, and the Knights took advantage with a three-run homer. After the Dutch went down in order, the game was finally called due to darkness, and Wartburg was victorious. Central finishes the regular season with a 22-14 record, and an 8-6 mark in Iowa Conference play. They’ll be in action Friday in Decorah in the opening round of the single elimination league tournament.
