A system generating pop up thunderstorms is expected to last through the weekend in the state, with a higher risk of severe weather in the next 48 hours.
According to the National Weather Service storm prediction center, a slight risk of severe thunderstorms has been issued for central Iowa through Friday morning.
The greatest threats will be heavy rain, damaging winds, and large hail. The storms will be hit-or-miss and scattered if they hit the area, mainly during the evening and overnight hours, with warm, humid conditions expected during the day.
