Those walking by the Tulip Toren in downtown Pella today may notice a group of bike riders hard at work racking up miles.

The first ever Tour de Toren continues through this afternoon. Bethany Christian Services is teaming up with Pella’s Triathlon Club to raise funds for adoptive programs at Bethany.

Rider Wes Chaplin says they are riding their bikes in place and hope to get pledges to rack up as many miles as they can in a 24 hour span.

“Figuring we can average typically on a trainer about 20 miles per hour, if you could ride for 24 straight hours you’re going to cover more miles than covering the state of Iowa,” he says.

Those who want to help should stop by the Tulip Toren by 5 p.m.
