The 5th annual Balloonfest 5K will benefit athletics programs at Pella, Pella Christian, and Knoxville High Schools.
Race Organizer Mike Buchheit says the 5k route is mostly hard surface, and the 10k is more reflective of a cross country race, and is a great way to kick off the day for Balloonfest.
“During registration and even the start of the race, the balloons are typically going overhead,” he says.
Buchheit says the team concept they had last year has nice parallels with how the event is hosted, and is a way to get multiple groups and families involved.
“So it can be a group of high school runners, cross country kids–I have a group of seven girls that’ll do it from the Pella Christian girls soccer team,” he tells KNIA/KRLS News. “We also do it as a promotion along with a lot of the corporations in town like Vermeer, Pella Corp, 3M, and the hospitals we have in the county.”
The event will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 9th at North Overlook Beach. Registration costs $20 for individuals and the price varies for teams based on size.
