A Central College graduate and former National Champion is setting his sights on Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Kurtis Brondyke is competing at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon July 1st through the 10th. The decathlete tells KNIA/KRLS News realizing his dream to compete in the Olympics would be the culmination of a lifetime of training and racing.

“It’d be unreal, I can’t even imagine it right now,” Brondyke says. “It’s everything I’ve dreamt of since I graduated in 2011 from Central College.”

Brondyke is thankful for the support of the Central College community during his post-collegiate training and at a trivia night fundraiser held back in January.

The decathlon is a 2-day, 10 event competition. Day 1 events are the 100m, long jump, shotput, high jump and 400m. Day 2 events are 110H, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500m. Athletes are awarded points for their times, distances or heights achieved.
