Bounced by a Little Hawkeye Conference opponent in the first round of the 2015 state girls’ soccer tournament, the Pella High Lady Dutch hope that exact same scenario has a different result today when they play Newton in round one of this year’s tourney. No. 1 Pella has just four losses on the year, half of them against top-ranked schools in other classes that are also at the Cownie Soccer Complex today. The Lady Dutch and the Cardinals played a 0 – 0 game that went to penalty kicks in the regular season, which was won by Pella. The score may not indicate it, but the Lady Dutch held control for most of the game thanks to their defense. Junior Ciara Buchheit says that being better offensively and correcting flaws will be key to them making the semifinals. The winner will play either ADM or Bishop Heelan in round two on Friday. Today’s opener is scheduled to kick-off at 3:15 p.m. on Field 9 in Des Moines.
