“You might not believe it when I tell you.” That was the first line of a text from head coach Jesse Jablonski of the Pella High baseball team last night. Down 7 – 3 with just one runner on and two outs in the top of the seventh, the Little Dutch rallied for four runs to send the game to extra innings, then scored six more in the eighth to beat Chariton, 13 – 7. The game saw a combined nine errors between the two teams and 24 total hits. AJ Kingery, Tyler Hillman, and Payton Shull all had two hits each. Shull had the biggest swing of the night, with a two-run, game-tying double in that seventh inning to keep his team alive.

The Lady Dutch softball team kept a potent Lynnville-Sully offense in check to earn a 4-2 victory at home last night. Head Coach Robin Llewellyn told KNIA/KRLS Sports the team’s crisp defense was a big reason for their success.

Pella was solid behind Kinzi Van Wyk, who tossed the complete game win. Eighth grader Courtney Thompson, in place of an out-of-town Lydia Dingeman, was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI, and Sara Tallman was 2-for-2 with a pair of runs. The 4-3 Lady Dutch return to conference play tonight at home against Grinnell. The Little Dutch are 4 – 1, and they are at home for a conference doubleheader versus the Tigers.
