Dealing with a massive amount of turnover after graduating a double-digit amount of seniors in 2015, the Central softball team experienced many highs and many lows during their 23 – 15 campaign in 2016. There were many times where the Dutch found themselves down early, only to come back and win in the late innings. One game that may have summed up the entire year for Central was their final game against Luther in the Iowa Conference tournament. The Dutch had just held on to beat Coe, 5 – 4, the previous day to stay alive, and got out to an enormous 11 – 2 lead over the eventual league champs. That lead evaporated in the blink of an eye, as the Norse scored 15 unanswered to end Central’s season. Coach George Wares says the game with Luther gave him the most unusual feeling he’s ever had. Only two seniors graduated this year for Coach Wares, and he’ll be bringing back a lot of experience and a very talented recruiting class for the 2017 season.
