The Marion County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Tuesday.

The Supervisors discussed the proposed plans for the creation for an annex to the courthouse at 113 Third directly across the square. The County is working with architects to come up with plans for the structure. A key piece of the plan has to do with the feasibility of geothermal heating at the courthouse and the as of yet unconstructed building. A1 Geothermal is being contracted to do borings at the courthouse to determine if the heating system would work to replace the aging HVAC infrastructure in the Marion County Courthouse. If geothermal is feasible, it will be used for both of the buildings in the future. In related business, the Supervisors also discussed selling farmland owned by the county in order to fund both the new building and the courthouse’s HVAC update. A plan was set in motion to begin appraising some county property for sale.
