Dating back to 1986, Central’s softball team has made the NCAA Division III Tournament 27 of the last 31 years. They have compiled a 92 – 54 record, a winning percentage of .630, and have won four national championships. Their 92 wins and four titles are both second in all of Division III softball.

Unfortunately, Central’s name was not called when the regional assignments were announced for the 2016 tournament in May. It was the first time since 2008 that the Dutch were on the outside looking in. Coach George Wares says it’s not a good feeling not having the chance to vie for a national championship, especially with a young team that he would have loved to see gain some valuable experience in big moments. Wares also tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that they are using it as motivation for 2017, a season he fully expects to hear the Central name announced when they roll out the regional assignments.
