Before they open conference action tonight, the Pella baseball and softball teams kept their early season momentum moving in the right direction with a pair of wins at home last night.

The Pella High Boys, despite a big charge from a young Nevada team in the middle innings, won 9-6 and scored in every frame. Landon Vander Leest got the win on the mound despite a rough 5th inning against the cubs.

Head Coach Jesse Jablonski says it was the first adversity some of his younger pitchers’ faced, and he expects their growth to continue as their conditioning on the mound improves.

The Lady Dutch bounced back after a tough tournament over the weekend with a 9-1 victory over Colfax-Mingo. Alexa Dingeman was 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles, a home run, and 3 RBI, Sara Tallman was 2 for 3 with an inside the park home run, and Kinzi Van Wyk pitched five shutout innings to earn the win.

Pella’s baseball team is 3-1, the girls are 3-2, and both travel to DCG later today to kick off conference play. Hear the softball game against the three-time defending state champs live on 92.1 KRLS, with Cory Houser on the call.
