The Eagles’ baseball team toppled rival Albia with a 2-1 pitchers’ duel, and the Pella Christian softball team exploded for early runs and rode their defense to a 4-0 victory last night at their home sports complex.

Pella Christian’s baseball team edged out the Blue Demons despite only five hits and two walks. They rode the pitching of Scott Haveman and Kyle Sneller, who earned the win. Head Coach Nate Johnson was impressed with how the team rose to the challenge of facing one of Albia’s top hurlers.

The Eagles’ softball team produced a three-run bottom of the 1st inning to give them enough cushion for Emma Schnell, who tossed a two-hit, complete-game shutout with eight Ks, and she also drove in two runs on a single. Senior Courtney Johannes scored a run and hit a double and said the key was getting the early jump on Albia.

Both Eagles’ squads are 3-0 to start the year and both travel to Newton tonight to begin Little Hawkeye Conference play.
