The first reading of an ordinance approving a water rate increase was improved at this week’s Pella City Council meeting.

City Administrator Mike Nardini says the council is reviewing the rate increase on an annual basis as they aim to generate revenue for financing the $16 million in improvements. Nardini says the rates would still remain competitive with nearby cities with a similar water system demand, and only results in a small monthly increase for Pella customers.

The City of Pella water improvements include a now completed Jordan Aquifer Well, improvements to the city’s water treatment plant, and a new water main and sewer line.
