Another complete effort from the Pella High girls’ soccer team has propelled them to the Class 2A state championship game. The Lady Dutch downed Bishop Heelan, Sioux City by a final tally of 5 – 2. The scoring started early for the Dutch; Emma Thoreson scored with just under 30 minutes left to go in the first half, and ten minutes later, Kayla Langstraat scored the first of her two goals. The game was 3 – 1 Pella going into intermission, before the Lady Dutch blew the game open late in the second half with goals within 49 seconds of one another from Grace Held and Langstraat. Katie Vander Molen also scored her fourth goal of the state competition, as the Lady Dutch’s overall record is now 16 – 4. They take on Lewis Central this afternoon at 1:30 p.m. on Field 9 at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines for the right to be called state girls’ soccer champion.
