Solo blasts from Lydia Dingeman and Kinzi Van Wyk provided the only official offense for the Pella High softball team last night in their 2 – 1, five-inning win over Knoxville, as heard live on KNIA and KRLS. Lydia Dingeman’s solo home run came to open up the second inning to break a scoreless tie. The Panthers put runners at second and third with one out in the third and Emily Wallace broke through with a sacrifice fly to tie the game up. Kinzi Van Wyk had the game-winning hit with her moon-shot over the left-centerfield fence, and Alexa Dingeman pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the fourth to preserve the win. The Lady Dutch scored three runs in the top of the sixth on back-to-back triples from Sara Tallman and Hannah Emmert and an RBI single from Alexa Dingeman; the Panthers had a lead-off double from Maddy Findley before weather moved into the area and forced the game to end after the last completed inning. Knoxville coach, Steph Christner, says that once again the defense played well and got the Panthers out of early trouble. Pella improves to 9 – 8 with the win and they have a date at Oskaloosa tonight, while the Panthers fall to 5 – 9, and will play at Pella Christian on Thursday.
