Coach Jesse Jablonski says that “everyone played their parts” last night in his Pella High baseball team’s 9 – 3 win over Oskaloosa to go a perfect 8 – 0 in league play in their first trip through. The Little Dutch accumulated 15 hits and batted around in the first to jump out to a 3 – 0 lead. Caleb Piersma went 3-for-5 offensively with three runs scored in the lead-off spot; Jaden Rolffs also had three hits and drove in four runs, and Landon Vander Leest had a multi-hit night with a pair of RBI. Lucas Hileman was the pitcher of record, going five innings and throwing good pitches to get out of tough spots. The Lady Dutch fell behind 7 – 1 after two innings, clawed back to tie it, but dropped 8 – 7 in eight innings to the Indians. Sara Tallman and Kinzi Van Wyk each had two hits, Hannah Emmert doubled, Lydia Dingeman had two RBI and a double, and Elly Cairney hit a solo home run. Pella baseball improves to 13 – 4 overall, while the girls fall to 9 – 9. Both teams begin their final trip through conference play tomorrow when they host Dallas Center – Grimes.
