Recent rainfall has alleviated a large area experiencing drought conditions in the state.
According to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor Report, Marion, Jasper, Monroe, and Mahaska Counties are all listed as “abnormally dry” after nearly a month of experiencing a moderate drought. The cut off for the weekly report is Tuesday at 8 a.m., which means the two inches of rain that fell throughout most of the county Tuesday afternoon was not included in the data. The abnormally dry rating means the region is recovering from drought conditions.
