Agriculture took over downtown Pella for the final Thursdays in Pella of 2016.
Marion County Farm Bureau partnered with the Pella Chamber of Commerce and local businesses to celebrate the industry. Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey spoke to a crowd at the Tulip Toren. He tells KNIA/KRLS News celebrations like Ag in the City remind communities about how important agriculture remains to Iowa’s economy.
“I think it’s important for non-farmers to have a little bit of a sense of what a farmer may go through and what some of those issues are–I don’t expect anyone to be an expert as they leave here,” he says. “I also think it’s valuable and appreciated by the farmers that are here to see others come out.”
Farm animals were shown by FFA members and other local farmers, the Marion County Cattlemen’s Association served beef, farm equipment was on display throughout the square, and Pella Ambulance held a car rescue demonstration.
KNIA/KRLS was at Thursdays in Pella each week this summer with the Lil’ Big Red Radio.
