A laundry list of accolades accompanies the coaches that will be heading the Championship Softball Camps at Central College later this month and into August. Registration is still open for Central’s camps; players entering grades 9 – 12 can participate in the overnight camp from July 31 – August 4, while athletes coming into grades 5 – 8 are able to take part in the day camps from August 1 – 5. Top college and high school coaches will lead instruction, including Central’s hall of fame coach, George Wares, along with his associate head coach, Alicia O’Brien. State championship coach, Laura Olson, of Maple River High School in Minnesota will also be in attendance, along with Mary Vande Hoef, head coach of Hope College who helped lead her team to the NCAA D3 tournament this past spring. The camps at Central have been going north of 25 years now, with athletes coming from Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Illinois, Nebraska, Texas, Connecticut, Washington, and New York. The athletes will learn all aspects of the sport and take part in daily games. For more information or to register, head to www.central.edu/athletics/camps/.
