Pella QF 1
Pella QF 2
Two big innings offensively and seven strong innings on the mound collectively pushed Pella High back to the Class 3A state baseball semifinals for the second consecutive year, as they shut out Humboldt last night, 6 – 0, in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS. The Little Dutch did not record a hit until the fourth inning, when AJ Kingery, who had been hitless in the postseason, smacked a double past the Wildcats’ first baseman. Grant Judkins followed up with a single, and then a big crack of the bat from Jaden Rolffs; a two-run triple from Pella’s backstop which ultimately was all Judkins would need on the mound, as he worked himself out of some jams late in the game and struck out 14 batters, six-in-a-row at one point. Judkins’ effort helped Pella record their fourth consecutive shutout. Rolffs told KNIA/KRLS Sports that he was hoping to jump on Humboldt’s hurler after back-to-back hits had the Dutch in business in the fourth. Coach Jesse Jablonski says Kingery’s double started a snowball effect that the Wildcats couldn’t stop. Rolffs finished 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs driven in. The win moves the Little Dutch to 31 – 8 overall and they’ll play Carlisle in a rematch from the first game of the season this Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. live on 92.1 KRLS, KNIAKRLS.com, and on our free KRLS mobile app.
