Kurtis Brondyke had a career-best time in the 100-meter dash to begin events in the decathlon yesterday at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Eugene, Oregon. The Central alum currently stands 13th in an elite field of athletes with 3,917 points. His time in the 100 was 11.06 seconds, and then had a jump of 22’1.5” in the long jump. Brondyke also had the third longest throw in the shot put with over 50’. Ashton Eaton, the defending Olympic gold medalist, leads the 18-man field with 4,561 points. Third place is Zach Ziemek, who has 4,411. The top three point-getters will go to Rio de Janeiro and compete for the United States in Brazil from August 5 – 21. The final five events of the trials resume this morning at 10:00 a.m. with the 110 high hurdles.
