A member of the Knoxville Panthers and Pella High Football team will each be in attendance in Cedar Falls today. It’s the 44th Annual Iowa Shrine Bowl that will be held inside the UNI Dome. Players are nominated by their coaches based on their skills on the field, and the character and leadership they show off the gridiron. Brock Caviness of the Panthers will play on the offensive line for the South team, while Clayberg will return to the Dome and also play for the South team as a quarterback. The Shrine Bowl game pits high school seniors on designated North and South teams against one another, all to help raise money for the Shriner’s Hospital For Children. Last year, the game raised $80,000; a total of over $2.6 million has been gathered since its inception in 1974. Festivities start this morning at 9:30 a.m. with a parade throughout Cedar Falls, followed by an autograph session, with the game to conclude the day starting at 4:00 p.m.
