A 21 – 8 record and big wins throughout the year helped the Pella Christian softball team land a whopping five players on the All-Conference list in 2016. Surprisingly, only one player was chosen for the first team; pitcher Emma Schnell was voted for that honor. She threw a majority of the innings for the Eagles, with an 18 – 6 overall record in 26 starts, striking out 171 batters in a little less than 154 innings pitched, and recorded a 1.59 ERA. Schnell’s strikeout total was third best in the Little Hawkeye Conference, and her 18 wins were the most of all conference pitchers. Four players were named to the second team All-Conference for the Eagles. Courtney Johannes and Brooke Mitrisin were selected as infielders. Johannes was eighth in RBI with 26, and hit .320 on the season. Mitrisin, who was primarily the Eagles’ lead-off hitter this year, scored the sixth most runs with 28, and hit .327. Natalie Vos and Elizabeth Van Manen were also selected to the second team; the duo was individually atop the league with six homers apiece and they drove in a combined 58 runs. Van Manen’s .432 batting average was fifth best in the conference. Chloe Dembski and Kirsten Vander Hart were each honorable mentions.
