An excessive heat warning continues through this evening, with dangerous temperatures and humidity expected.
Afternoon highs will once again top out in the mid-90s, with heat index values approaching 110. Meteorologists with the National Weather Service say one reason why it’s dangerously muggy is because Iowa’s corn is near peak maturity. The crops pump out billions of gallons of moisture into the air daily. They say that can add up to 10 degrees to the dew point.
Relief from the heat is expected soon, with highs topping out in the mid 80s most of next week
