It was two or even three games in one last night as the Knoxville Baseball Squad beat Chariton 17-7 and sent everyone home early due to the ten run mercy rule in the fifth inning. How the game got to that final score is a rather long strange trip for both the Panthers and the Chargers. Knoxville had control leading 7-1 after three innings of play when the Chargers struck for five runs in the fourth, and one in the fifth to tie the game at seven. That set the stage for the Panthers to roll up 14 batters in the fifth inning and plate ten runs on four hits and two errors. Blake McClung got the game ending RBI as he brought home Trent Davis. McClung got the win on the mound, which was not one of his best outings giving up seven runs on eight hits, a walk and two strikeouts. But as Coach Joel Johnson told KNIA/KRLS Sports after the game, McClung battled back after struggling in the fourth inning. Jacob Zuck went 3/4 with a triple and two RBIs plus Rylan Cox also had a couple RBIs. Knoxville is now 14-11 on the season 12-2 in the South Central Conference. Due to the Big Reds loss to Albia last night, the Panthers now have a two game lead with four games to play in the SCC race. Knoxville hosts Mount Pleasant in a double header tonight.
