Twelve days. That’s how long Pella Christian’s baseball team had off between their last game of the regular season and their district tournament opener against Centerville this past Tuesday. Unfortunately, it ultimately led to Centerville blanking PC, 4 – 0 and effectively ending the Eagles’ season. Their last game before the playoffs was the second game of the doubleheader versus Dallas Center – Grimes on June 30. PC had two more games scheduled; one versus Sigourney the next night of July 1, which was cancelled, and their game versus PCM on July 7 was bailed out on by the Mustangs at the last minute. Coach Nate Johnson says you could look at several things as to why his guys came out flat against the Big Red, but he says the long layover did not do them any favors. Pella Christian finished 17 – 13 on the year and they lose just two seniors from their varsity squad for next year.
