The National Soccer Coaches Association of America released yesterday that the Pella High girls’ soccer team received the Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award for 2016. The honor recognizes high school teams that display good sportsmanship throughout the season, and is based on the number of yellow and red cards a school receives. In 21 games this season, the Lady Dutch received just three yellow cards and zero red cards. Pella High received the silver award for not being dealt a red card and having between 11 – 30% of yellow cards during seasonal play. It’s the second time in three years that Pella’s girls have received the award, and they finished the 2016 campaign with a 16 – 5 record and were the Class 2A state runners-up.
