The Lady Dutch softball team was hoping to capture some of the magic that drove them to a state tournament appearance last year, and while they came close, their season ended Saturday night.
Pella fell to Cedar Rapids Xavier 3-2 in an 8th inning walk off heard live on 92.1 KRLS. Pella took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 3rd with a Sara Tallman double and steal leading to a run scoring on a fielders choice.
Despite stranding nine runners on base overall, Xavier came back to tie in the 5th before Pella jumped to a 2-1 lead in the top of the 8th. The Saints won the game on a two-run walkoff single with nobody out in the bottom half of the frame.
Coach Robin Llewellyn told KNIA/KRLS Sports in the post game interview that her girls played one of their best games all year, but fell short to a talented team.
Kinzi Van Wyk gave up 11 hits and 3 runs in seven plus innings, and Sara Tallman finished 2-4 with both runs scored.
Pella finishes the season at 15-19 as says farewell to Tallman and the Dingeman twins.
