A cinderella run through the postseason making it all the way to the State Semifinals came to a close last night for the Pleasantville Baseball Team last night after a 7-1 loss to Kuemper Catholic in a game heard live on AM 1320 and FM 95.3 KNIA.
The Trojans got into trouble early as the hot hitting Knights would strike early combined with some defensive miscues would allow the Knights to get ahead early 4-0 in the first, and then would tack on more runs in the second chasing Trojan starter Colton Major from the game and then more in the fourth and fifth innings before the Trojans would strike for a run in the sixth. Kuemper starter Tyler Laing would be dominant, not allowing a hit until the sixth when Gauge Van Haalen broke through with a single and eventually coming around and scoring on an Ethan Worthington fielder’s choice grounder. The Trojans were limited to just two hits overall, and struck out nine times. Pleasantville Head Coach Sheldon Card told KNIA/KRLS Sports after the game that he was so proud of his team for coming this far despite being underdogs the entire season. The Trojans end the season with a 29-10 overall record and a second consecutive appearance in the State Tournament. The Team says goodbye to seven seniors, and a full recap of the season can be heard on the Knoxville Hyvee Radio Coaches Corner tomorrow morning.
