The 2016 season was winding down for the Pella Christian baseball team, and at one point, they had prevailed in six out of their previous nine games entering play on June 28. The Eagles had the privilege that few hardball teams get in a season; they were able to step foot and play a game at Principal Park. They played Ballard, a fairly solid Class 3A school, and fell behind early, 7 – 3 after four innings. PC rallied in the seventh inning and scored seven runs to stun the Bombers, 10 – 7. Though he hoped the game would be a preview or a taste of a field they would play on in late July, Coach Nathan Johnson says the comeback and the venue it happened on will be a cherished memory for his guys for the rest of their lives. The Eagles made an unfortunate quick exit from the Class 2A district tournament, but will return all but two players next season.
